Puppy Referral: Before you buy a Golden check the Golden Retriever Club of American website http://www.grca.org. Not all Dogs are created equal. A good breeder cares about health clearances and should be a resource for the buyer for the life of the dog. They will take back the dog in the event  unforeseen circumstances force you to give up your dog.

This document contains breeder names and contact information. While we ask that breeders have bred from sires and dams with all genetic clearances that are suggested in the Golden Retriever Club of America Code of Ethics, we do not visit these breeders nor do we verify the clearances. It is up to the buyer to ask for them and also to ask other appropriate questions. Some questions that you should ask of breeders are provided below. How many years have you been breeding?

How many litters have you bred?

Do you breed other breeds if so how many (More than 2 be wary you could be contacting a puppy mill)

How old was the female when you first bred her? (Should be at least 2 years of age).

How many litters has she had?

Which of the following clearances do you obtain on all breeding stock? OFA (hips) eyes cert, SAS heart should have all 3.

What requirements do you have for buyers to meet?

How do you temperament test your puppies?

At what age do puppies go home?

List of Golden Breeders:

Breeders on this list may or may not have puppies. You may have to get on a waiting list since there are usually more buyers than breeders for well bred Golden puppies. Please seek out qualified breeders. Pet stores usually get their stock from puppy mills and back yard breeders, who usually list in the classifieds, probably do not have health clearances nor do they bred for temperament. You may be in for major problems if you purchase a pup without the health and temperament clearances. Clearances are noted in question 3 above. A good breeder will always take back a dog that for what ever reason must be returned. A good breeder will have a number of questions for you.
